Marie Claire at Homeland!
In the pristine mountains and isolated paths they find peace. Restoring the view with simple yet breathtaking landscapes. Breathing clean air. Living in the here and now to the rhythm of your own breathing and your own skis that plow through the snow pushed only by the strength of your own body. As revealed by a study conducted by ISPO (Monaco International Winter Sport Fair), ski mountaineering lovers have increased! Current data from DAV and Skimo-Austria even lead to the hypothesis that the ski mountaineering community will grow by 6% per year. "In this last season the number of ski mountaineers in the Alps has almost doubled", says Benedikt Böhm, German general manager of Dynafit, one of the companies promoting ski fitness. "It's a new generation of ski mountaineers, more relaxed, and we're starting to see families too. And as sports marketing experts say, when the female component grows it's always a sign of liveliness, because it means that being able to growth is the entire sector." This trend suggests that in the near future ski mountaineering routes on pre-established routes will appear in more and more locations. Places, which partly already exist, but which should be usable again in a controlled context. We remind you that article 15 of law no. 363 of 2003 prohibits going up the slope with or without skis on, unless authorized by the managers of the equipped skiing area. The same law gives managers of ski slopes and skiable areas the power to regulate their use. The idea could therefore be to organize safe routes that revolve around the facilities, as some areas have already developed. Böhm has chosen to collaborate with ski lift managers and ski resort owners and since November 2019 has been a partner in a new concept aimed specifically at ski mountaineering users in St. Johann Tirol, Austria. At Aprica (Sondrio) you can go ski mountaineering at night. Here, in fact, the "Baradello" is beaten, illuminated and open to enthusiasts from 5.30pm to 9pm on certain days, until the end of February by paying a daily contribution of 5 euros. The Bardonecchia ski area (Turin) allowed skiing along some slopes from 28 December to 6 January for skin enthusiasts. It has also made available two well-known itineraries for the ascent. In the Borno-Monte Altissimo area (Brescia) ski mountaineers can also refresh themselves with the take-away service at the local refuge. Between Valle d'Aosta and Valais SKIALP Gran San Bernardo is an area where novices and more expert skiers can find routes, services and tourist opportunities suited to different needs. Its creation involved a European Regional Development Fund.
Of fundamental importance to approach this sport and reduce its risks is to attend safety courses or rely on an expert. Studies show that the perception of risk is linked to factors such as equipping oneself with safety devices or having attended dedicated courses. New, improvised or beginner users have no idea about the risk and how it is assessed. We need to raise awareness, educate and prepare mountain users to generate more qualified ones. An avalanche transceiver - search device for victims of an avalanche is the starting point for approaching snow-covered terrain responsibly. There is no license for the mountains and therefore it is up to individual responsibility and initiative to create the basis of knowledge. There has recently been talk of the possibility of making the search device mandatory for all those who go to the mountains on snowy terrain. In this regard, the Mmove Mountaineering School of Arco (Trento) has promoted some free webinars entitled Ski mountaineering today: restrictions, new perspectives and safety. Among the speakers were ski mountaineering experts, reference companies and sector specialists, who discussed this emerging phenomenon and the topic of safety.
In this content of love and passion towards the soul of the mountains, the Homeland Montespluga Madesimo project was born, a reality that has the aim of allowing beginners in particular to approach the practice of skialp or splitboard in complete safety, both from the in terms of the equipment to be used, as well as knowledge of the snow and descent techniques. Thus, everyone, from the most expert to the least expert in sports, will be able to explore, have fun and get involved in a controlled context. Homeland will be a point of reference for ski mountaineering in the central Alps. A container of ad hoc designed routes, but also in the total freedom that the mountains can offer in winter, a precious way to take advantage of the support of professionals and services and participate in events and initiatives linked to the philosophy of skialp, a
